Letter from the CEO: 2016 Year in Review
It was a BIG year here at SeamlessGov. 2016 saw monumental changes, our largest improvements to date, and incredible growth. After closing a $7 million Series B round in Q2, led by Motorola Solutions, NY State Innovation Fund, 1776 and the GovTech Fund, we set our focus on helping spread our vision of creating beautiful online government experiences.
2016 saw +100% headcount growth, 100% total growth, and 3X in number of government customers. We opened up offices in San Francisco, Miami and Washington DC to support our growing team and our presence in over 48 states. We partnered with Carrahsoft to expand and streamline the buying process for potential government customers of SeamlessGov.
On the product side, we prepared for growth by hiring a VP of Engineering, Dave Nicponski, an 8 year Google Veteran who spent 2 years at Twitter. Under Nicponski, we launched Kubernetes infrastructure to increase scale and speed. We also launched the First-Ever Government Relationship Manager, designed to be the complete toolbox for governments’ backend form processing and workflows.
The SeamlessGov Organization itself underwent significant changes as well. 2 new divisions were rolled out: Federal, focused on changing the Federal Government Form Experience, and Labs, focused on testing and developing the next generation of Government Experiences, from websites to business license portals and beyond.
The Federal division was launched by bringing on Dan Tangherlini, ex Administrator of the GSA, City Administrator of Washington DC, and Founder of the federal digital agency 18F. Dan has spent his career engendering innovation within highly complex organizations and establishing systems and frameworks for sustainable operations. As President of SeamlessDocs Federal, he is focused on bringing the SeamlessGov mission to our largest potential partner to date, Federal agencies.
As a leader in the Govtech space, it was our honor to bring on Cass Sunstein, Harvard professor, author and the most widely cited legal scholar in America, and Rachel Haot, former Chief Digital Officer of NYC and MD of 1776, as formal advisors. In line with our mission, we began a monthly Speaker Series at SeamlessGov HQ exploring the issues facing Govtech & Government Innovation. Our initial series have hosted Shaun Abrahamson of Urban.Us and Jonathan McBride, former Special Assistant to President Obama.
As we like to say at SeamlessDocs, while what we have already built is exciting, and what we will be rolling out next is exciting (it's going to be incredible), the most exciting things ahead are the things we have yet to build together. We could not be more honored to be in a position to get to work on such an important mission with such amazing partners. This year was absolutely an unforgettable one, but we promise... THE BEST IS YET TO COME.
Thank you for joining us on our journey to truly rebrand the government experience. We cannot wait to continue to make government beautiful TOGETHER!
